It is designed to power all versions of world known, proved in combat conditions the MiG-29 fighter (at present it is in service in more than 27 countries).
The engine has high thrust-to-weight ratio, low specific fuel consumption, high gas dynamic stability in all range of operation ratings and flight speeds even when missile and gun weapon is used.
As a result of updating the engine design during long operation of several thousand engines reliability of the last modifications conforms to international standards.
At present RD-33 engines are produced in two modifications: series 2 and series 3.
On the basis of the RD-33there are developed modifications with low location of the engine accessory gear box for light fighters as well as the engine version with increased thrust for carrier-based MiG-29К. The last engine versions are equipped with digital automatic system to control engine ratings FADEC type.
The Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise provides complete after sale maintenance, spare parts supply and engine overhaul satisfying interests of all operators’ needs. To ensure high accuracy diagnostics engines condition in service the special information –diagnostic ground control system is used. All engines overhauled by the enterprise are furnished with the same warranty as new ones.
The developer of the RD-33 engines family is FGUP "Klimov plant", and the head engine manufacturer responsible for engines support in service and overhaul is "Chernyshev MME", JSC. Both organizations are closely cooperates in interest of comprehensive ensuring the whole engine life.
Work is carried out to increase engine thrust to 12000 kgf. New versions are planned to be equipped with the thrust vectoring nozzle, it significantly improve characteristics of maneuverability and combat efficiency of the aircraft.
